Your average girl doesn't grow up not expecting to live to their current age of 17, much less until next year. Bryen Cost was born with a lack of immunities, and allergic to everything. Middle child of two fallen-from-society, up-tight parents, Bryen follows her older brother Carl's footsteps in being different from them, and actually having a heart and a sense of decency.

Nearly five hundred years ago, a war was started between the Talents and the beings called Darke, from outside the system. The war was lost. Now there are only five days left before Destiny's time is finished. But a cry of help from the only remaining planet (more a moon, really) draws Destiny's attention.
